A Brief History of AI
The historical development of Artificial Intelligence traces back to the early 1950s when Alan Turing invented the Turing Test, a criteria to determine if a machine exhibits human-like intelligence. In the 1960s, the first chatbot was created, known as ELIZA, which allowed for basic interaction between humans and machines. Moving into the late 1970s, there was a significant milestone, as IBM's Deep Blue chess computer managed to defeat a world chess champion in two of the six games played, marking a pivotal moment in AI. By 2011, the introduction of Siri as a digital assistant by Apple highlighted the move towards smart personal assistants in everyday life.
In 2015, notable figures, including Elon Musk, established OpenAI, emphasizing the need to promote friendly AI for humanity's benefit. Throughout these decades, AI has dramatically evolved, transitioning from theoretical concepts and simple programs to advanced systems capable of complex problem-solving and learning, shaping various aspects of our daily lives.
