Define acceleration in the context of fluid mechanics.
Think about how velocity changes.
What is a stagnation point?
Consider areas where the flow stops.
What does acceleration represent in fluid mechanics?
Consider what accelerates in a flowing fluid.
True or False: A stagnation point indicates a flow with maximum velocity.
Review what happens where the flow stops.
You have a fluid flowing at a variable speed through a straight pipe. At a specific point, the local acceleration is measured as 5 m/s², and the convective acceleration calculated is -2 m/s². What is the total acceleration?
Add the two types together to find the total.
At a nozzle, the flow stagnation point occurs when the velocity approaches zero. If the incoming speed is 10 m/s with a radius of curvature influencing flow direction, describe how you would find local and convective acceleration near that point.
Use the relationships and equations we've learned to calculate.
