Swimlanes in BPMN
Swimlanes are a fundamental concept in Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN), used to represent different participants in a business process clearly. In BPMN diagrams, swimlanes are structured into two main components: Pools and Lanes.
Pools
- A Pool represents a participant in a process, often associated with an organization or actor responsible for the process.
Lanes
- Lanes are subdivisions within a Pool that delineate the roles or departments involved in the process. Each lane signifies a specific role's responsibilities, enabling clear accountability and visibility into how different parts of the organization interact with one another.
Significance
Using swimlanes not only simplifies complex processes by visualizing interactions but also aids in identifying areas for improvement and efficiency. By clarifying roles and responsibilities, organizations can enhance collaboration and streamline processes.
