So then they thought why not we move the city into a different place a safe place...
The Kiruna Project was initiated due to the dangers posed by underground mining activities. As the mining progressed, it encroached dangerously close to the city center. Authorities recognized the potential hazards that could endanger the lives and infrastructure within the city as the underground mining was set to continue advancing. Therefore, to ensure the safety of residents and the longevity of the city, a decision was made to relocate the entire city to a safer location.
Think of it like a family living in a house that is slowly sinking because of erosion. Just as the family would decide to move to a safer home before it becomes too dangerous to live there, the residents of Kiruna had to make a similar choice to move their entire city for safety.
