3.1. Economic Haul Distance

Every earthmoving equipment has its own economic haul distance. The economic haul distance of a bulldozer, the maximum distance is only 100 meters. Beyond 100 meters it is not advisable to use this particular machine; you will not get your desired productivity, and if you use it will result in a lot of wear and tear for the particular machine. This machine is designed only for a haul distance of up to 100 meters.

Economic haul distance refers to the optimal distance for which a piece of machinery can operate effectively without incurring excessive wear. For bulldozers, this distance is about 100 meters. If the material needs to be moved farther than this, the bulldozer may not be efficient, leading to reduced productivity and mechanical stress. However, if you fill it with heavy items (like pushing non-cohesive materials), you might struggle and tire out faster, which mirrors how a bulldozer's operation changes with material type and size.

Generally, the bulldozer can push cohesive material more easily when compared to non-cohesive material like sand. A cohesive material can easily roll in front of the blade, so it is easy to push, but sand remains like a dead material; it will not roll easily. So, the pushing of sand is a little bit difficult with the bulldozer, and your haul distances get reduced.

Understanding the difference between cohesive and non-cohesive materials is crucial for bulldozer operations. Cohesive materials, like clay, typically stick together and can be pushed more easily by the bulldozer, making operations efficient. In contrast, non-cohesive materials, such as sand, do not bind well and can cause challenges in moving, as they may shift or spread out rather than roll, leading to reduced effectiveness and operational distances.
